Getting Started

Updated: 10/03/24

Welcome to the team! We're excited to have you on board and ready to guide you through the essential steps for getting started as a transcriber or reviewer at Parrot. This article covers everything from setting up your account to diving into your first tasks. Let’s get started!

Account Setup

Before you can start working, you'll need to set up your Parrot account. Follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Sign In

NOTE: When you originally applied for the job, you set up your username (email) and password. You will use these login credentials to sign in to the platform.

  • At www.parrot.us click on the ‘Sign In’ button on the top right corner of the screen, and you’ll be directed to Parrot’s sign-in page.

  • Enter your email and password.

NOTE: Enter email and password directly in the fields. Do NOT use the google SSO.

Linking Your Bank Account to Stripe

To get paid for your work, you’ll need to set up payment through Stripe. Here’s how:

Step 1: Connect to Stripe

  • When you log into your Parrot account for the first time, you will be immediately redirected to connect your bank account with Stripe.

Step 2: Link Your Bank Account

  • Once redirected to Stripe, follow the prompts to link your bank account.
  • Enter your personal and banking details. Make sure everything is accurate to avoid payment delays. You must link a bank account for direct deposits. Our system does not accept deposits to debit cards.

Step 3: Confirmation

  • Once your bank account is linked, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Stripe. Payments will automatically be deposited into this account in a weekly fashion.

Computer Settings

To ensure everything runs smoothly, follow these important computer setup steps:

Step 1: Use Google Chrome

  • Ensure that the browser you are using is Google Chrome. If you don’t have it installed, click here for instructions on how to download and install Google Chrome.

Step 2: Disable Third-Party Extensions

  • All editing assistant third-party extensions, such as Grammarly, must be turned OFF. This is essential as the content in our transcripts is highly sensitive. The NDA you signed emphasizes maintaining confidentiality and keeping all material within the Parrot platform.
  • Watch this video for steps on turning off third-party extensions.

Step 3: Enable Basic Spell Check

  • Make sure that Google Chrome's Basic spell check is ON in your settings. If it’s not turned on, there is a risk of sending some parts of the transcript to Google servers, which we must avoid.
  • Watch this video or read Google’s instructions here to ensure Basic spell check is enabled.

How to Claim Training Tasks

Before jumping into live transcription work, you’ll need to complete some training. Here's how to get started:

Step 1: Access Your Training Tasks

  • Log in to your Parrot account and go to the Transcription section in the dashboard.
  • Click the blue button labeled “Claim new task”.

Step 2: Start Working

  • Click Start Task to begin working on the transcription.
  • Follow the guidelines carefully as this will help you become familiar with the Parrot transcription process.

Step 3: Submit for Review

  • After completing the task, click Finish to send it in for review, and then you can claim and complete the final training task.
  • Repeat Steps 1 and 2.

How to View Reviewed Feedback

Once you submit a transcription task, our team will review it and provide feedback. Here’s how you can access it:

Step 1: Go to the Check Reviewer Feedback Section

  • In your dashboard, under the Check Reviewer Feedback section, click the task to see feedback.

Step 2: Review Your Feedback

  • You’ll see your recently transcribed task, side by side along with the edits and adjusted transcript our reviewers made to yours. Make sure to read through these carefully to understand what errors/mistakes you may have made.

NOTE: Training Task reviews can take around an hour or so to complete before having reviewable feedback.

If you disagree with the feedback you’ve received from the review process, use this Feedback Dispute Request Form

Step 3: Accept Your Feedback

  • In order to get paid out, you must scroll to the bottom of the Feedback screen and “Accept Feedback”.

  • Once you accept your feedback, you won't be able to see that page again. Feedback is your best resource for improving your skills. Make sure to take it seriously and apply the lessons to your future tasks.

How to Join Slack

Slack is where our team communicates, shares updates, and collaborates. Here’s how you can join:

Step 1: Receive Your Invitation

  • You will receive a Slack invite via email. Open the email and click the Join Slack button.

Step 2: Create Your Slack Account

  • If you don’t already have a Slack account, follow the prompts to create one.
  • Choose a display name that matches your full name so team members can easily recognize you.

Step 3: Start Participating

  • Once in Slack, you’ll have access to various channels where we discuss tasks, provide updates, and share helpful tips. Make sure to join the relevant channels for transcribers or reviewers.

NOTE: Stay engaged in Slack and keep your notifications on to stay updated on new guidelines, changes, or available tasks.
